Fulton County, Ga. – An armed intruder was sent to a South Bend hospital early Monday morning after breaking into a house and later getting shot by the homeowner.
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, just after midnight Monday, a gunman entered a home in the 300 block of North Toner Street in Kewanna.
Kewanna is about 15 miles southwest of Rochester.
Police say the couple woke up to the sound of the door breaking, which prompted the male homeowner, Camrom Vawter, 34, to get a gun.
Vawter told police he shot the gunman, disarming him, then called 911.
The intruder was later identified as 41-year-old Michael Righter of Kewanna.
Police say a woman inside the home reported she is currently going through a divorce with Righter.
Righter was airlifed to Memorial Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
